Why SCADA is not "generic IT"
SCADA systems connect field devices, control logic and operators. Translation errors can cause mis-operation, wrong alarm response or audit failure. Tag IDs, point names and permission levels must stay consistent with screenshots and exports.

- HMI screens and string tables — buttons, states, trend legends, units
- Alarm and event manuals — codes, triggers, acknowledgements, escalation
- Operator / engineer manuals — routines, switching logic, backup procedures
- Engineering exports — CSV tag lists, XML configs, multilingual resource bundles
Terminology management
Build a project glossary for breakers, bays, RTU/IED naming and alarm levels. Standard numbers (IEC 61850, IEEE, GB) usually stay untranslated; explanatory text is localized. Use TM to lock recurring tag descriptions.
QA recommendations
- Engineer sign-off on tag naming strategy (retain / transliterate / translate)
- Bilingual spot-checks on critical alarms and operating sequences
- DTP verification for tables, bookmarks and cross-references
